ChatGPT Pricing in 2026 editorial cover comparing Free, Go, Plus, Pro and Business plans

For individuals in the United States, ChatGPT currently starts at $0 for Free, $8/month for Go, $20/month for Plus, and $100/month for the available Pro tier. A higher-usage Pro $200 tier still exists for current subscribers, but OpenAI temporarily paused new Pro $200 subscriptions and upgrades on September 10, 2026.

Teams have a separate pricing model. ChatGPT Business now uses Standard and Premium seats: Standard costs $25 per user per month on monthly billing or $20 per user per month on annual billing, while Premium costs $125 monthly or $100 on annual billing. Business requires at least two paid seats and lets a workspace mix the two seat types.

AI-XBlog recommendation: Plus remains the best default paid plan for most individual knowledge workers. Go is the lower-cost upgrade when you mostly need more everyday usage. Pro $100 is for heavy users who can justify substantially higher limits and Pro capabilities. Business is a different decision: buy it for team governance, shared workspace controls and business-data handling—not simply because several people need personal Plus accounts.

The biggest 2026 pricing change: ChatGPT Pro now has two usage tiers

Older ChatGPT pricing articles often describe Pro as a single $200 plan. That is now incomplete. OpenAI’s current Pro documentation describes two Pro tiers with the same core capabilities but different usage allowances:

  • Pro $100: 5× higher usage than Plus.
  • Pro $200: 20× usage compared with Plus.

OpenAI says both Pro tiers include the same core Pro capabilities; the main difference is allowance. Some individual models can still have separate limits, so “5×” and “20×” should not be interpreted as a promise that every single feature has exactly that multiplier.

Availability alert: as of September 10, 2026, OpenAI has temporarily paused new sign-ups and upgrades to Pro $200. Existing Pro $200 subscriptions continue to renew, and Pro $100 remains available. If an existing Pro $200 subscription ends during the pause, it cannot be repurchased until OpenAI lifts the restriction.

Free: better than a typical trial, but still a limited plan

The Free plan is not simply a short demo. OpenAI’s current pricing page lists unlimited everyday text chats with its default everyday model, subject to abuse guardrails, plus access to several ChatGPT features. The important limitation is depth and volume: uploads, image generation, voice, deep research, memory, data analysis, Codex and ChatGPT Work access are restricted compared with paid plans.

Choose Free if: you use ChatGPT occasionally, mainly for text-based everyday tasks, and you are not regularly hitting tool or usage limits. Do not upgrade just because a paid plan exists; upgrade when a specific limit is costing you time or preventing a workflow you actually use.

Go: the low-cost upgrade for everyday usage

ChatGPT Go launched globally in January 2026. OpenAI lists the U.S. price at $8 per month and notes that pricing is localized in some markets. Go is designed for people who want more messages, uploads, image creation, voice use and memory than Free without paying for Plus.

The tradeoff is that Go is not positioned as the full advanced-reasoning tier. It is an expanded-access plan. OpenAI also states that Go may include ads, while Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise are positioned as ad-free plans.

Choose Go if: Free is too restrictive for your daily volume but you mainly need more of the everyday ChatGPT experience. If your work regularly requires advanced reasoning, larger professional workflows, deeper research or broader tool access, Plus is the more relevant comparison.

Plus: the best-value paid plan for most individuals

ChatGPT Plus costs $20 per month and is billed monthly. OpenAI does not currently offer annual billing for Plus, Go or Pro.

Compared with Go, the current pricing page positions Plus around advanced reasoning and expanded professional tools. It includes higher limits for messages and uploads, expanded deep research, more memory/context, projects, scheduled tasks, custom GPT creation, expanded Codex usage, broader ChatGPT Work access and early access to some new features.

Choose Plus if: ChatGPT is part of your work or study most days and the value comes from more than raw message volume. For many writers, marketers, analysts, researchers, developers and other knowledge workers, the jump from $8 Go to $20 Plus is easier to justify than the much larger jump from Plus to Pro.

Pro $100: when Plus limits become an actual work constraint

Pro $100 is the currently available lower Pro tier. OpenAI describes it as providing the same core Pro capabilities as the $200 tier with a lower usage allowance—5× Plus rather than 20× Plus.

The upgrade is expensive relative to Plus: $100/month is five times the Plus subscription price. That means the decision should be based on measurable workflow value, not curiosity about having the highest plan label.

  • Good reason to upgrade: you repeatedly hit Plus limits during paid work, research, coding or other high-value tasks.
  • Good reason to upgrade: Pro-only capabilities materially improve work you perform often.
  • Weak reason to upgrade: you occasionally want faster answers or simply want the most capable plan available.

Pro $200: highest usage, but temporarily unavailable to new subscribers

Pro $200 is still OpenAI’s highest-usage individual Pro tier at 20× Plus usage. Existing subscribers are not affected by the September 2026 pause and can continue renewing. New subscriptions and upgrades to Pro $200 are temporarily unavailable.

For an existing subscriber, the real comparison is whether the additional allowance is worth another $100 every month over Pro $100. If you do not consistently need more than the Pro $100 allowance, the higher tier has weak economic justification even if you already have access to it.

What the personal plans cost over 12 months

Go, Plus and Pro do not currently have annual billing, but the 12-month equivalent helps show the real budget difference.

PlanMonthly price12-month equivalentDifference vs Plus over 12 months
Go (U.S. list price)$8$96-$144
Plus$20$240Baseline
Pro $100$100$1,200+$960
Pro $200$200$2,400+$2,160

These are not annual-plan prices; they are simply 12 monthly payments. This framing is useful because a professional considering Pro $100 is deciding whether ChatGPT creates at least roughly $80/month more value than Plus, while an existing Pro $200 user is paying roughly $180/month more than Plus.

ChatGPT Business pricing: Standard and Premium seats

ChatGPT Business is not a multi-user version of Plus with one simple seat price anymore. In August 2026, OpenAI introduced Standard and Premium ChatGPT seats inside Business workspaces.

Business seatMonthly billingAnnual billingUsage
Standard$25/user/month$20/user/month, billed annuallyStandard included ChatGPT / Work / Codex usage
Premium$125/user/month$100/user/month, billed annually5× Standard usage and no 5-hour usage limit

A Business workspace requires at least two paid seats, but the seats can be mixed. That is important because a company does not have to pay Premium pricing for every employee just because a small number of power users need higher limits.

Business seat math for a two-person team

Seat mixAnnual-plan monthly equivalentAnnual bill
2 Standard$40/month$480/year
1 Standard + 1 Premium$120/month$1,440/year
2 Premium$200/month$2,400/year

This is one of the most useful changes in the Business pricing model: the workspace can put higher-cost capacity only on the people who need it. Business can also use flexible pricing / workspace credits to extend usage beyond included limits.

Business is not just about higher limits

The main reason to buy Business instead of reimbursing several personal subscriptions is governance. OpenAI’s Business plan includes a secure workspace, centralized billing and administration, SAML SSO and MFA, usage analytics and spend controls, connectors to business tools, and the ability to manage seat types centrally.

There is also an important data-handling difference: OpenAI says Business data is not used to train its models by default. On individual Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans, the current pricing page says an opt-out is available for model-training use of content. For organizations with customer, employee or proprietary information, that distinction can matter more than the monthly seat price.

What about Enterprise?

ChatGPT Enterprise uses custom pricing through sales. It is aimed at organizations that need enterprise procurement, security, governance and deployment controls beyond the self-serve Business plan. If your primary question is simply “which plan is cheapest for ten people?”, Business is the transparent starting point. Enterprise becomes relevant when the purchasing requirements themselves are enterprise-grade.

ChatGPT subscriptions do not include API usage

This is one of the most common pricing misunderstandings. Paying for ChatGPT Plus or Pro does not give you a pool of API credits. OpenAI states that API usage is separate and billed independently. ChatGPT subscriptions pay for the ChatGPT product experience; API pricing applies when you build software that calls OpenAI models programmatically.

If your goal is to connect OpenAI to n8n, Zapier, a custom app or your own backend through an API key, budget that API usage separately from your ChatGPT subscription. For the broader architecture question—when to use rules, an AI step or an agent—see our AI Automation in 2026 guide.

Ads: which plans are ad-free?

OpenAI’s current pricing page says Go may include ads. OpenAI’s advertising announcement states that Free and Go are the tiers used for ad testing, while Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise remain ad-free.

This is not a reason by itself to buy Plus, but it is part of the value difference between Go and Plus—especially for people who use ChatGPT throughout the workday.

A simple upgrade test before you spend more

Before moving up a plan, write down the specific constraint you are buying your way out of:

  1. What limit am I hitting? Messages, reasoning access, deep research, files, Codex, context, image generation or something else?
  2. How often does it happen? Once a month is different from every workday.
  3. What does the interruption cost? Lost billable time, slower research, inability to complete a workflow, or only inconvenience?
  4. Does the higher plan actually remove that limit? Some models and features have separate allowances even on Pro.
  5. Is this an individual-capacity problem or an organization-governance problem? If the latter, Business may be more relevant than Pro.

This prevents the most common pricing mistake: paying for a more expensive plan before identifying the bottleneck that supposedly justifies it.

Bottom line

For most individuals, the decision is Free vs Go vs Plus—not Plus vs Pro. Plus at $20/month is still the rational default paid tier when ChatGPT is a serious everyday work tool. Pro $100 makes sense only when higher usage or Pro capabilities produce enough real value to justify an additional $80 every month.

For organizations, stop comparing Business to personal plans only on price. Business is buying a managed company workspace, centralized administration and different default data handling. Premium seats then solve the separate problem of heavy-user capacity without forcing the whole team onto the most expensive seat.
